Finder Telescopes
strong>Finder Telescopes
Can the universe possibly be fascinating until we find life elsewhere? Until then, it's an infinite void?
I don't find the pictures taken by the Hubble Telescope and the Terrestrial Planet Finder the least bit interesting anymore. If they could capture an image of a six headed creature floating in space that would be mindblowing. But all of the pictures they get just keep confirming that space is a hostile infinite void of cosmic gas and dust, a total anomaly. Space is infinite randomness which is the worst of all possible outcomes until proven otherwise.
I think that what it means to each person depends on one's expectations. A lot of people who are interested in astronomy, physics, chemistry and geology will find most of the pictures and any discoveries interesting.
You might feel better about this if you don't limit yourself to the idea that the only fascinating things we can possibly find out there is other creatures, or only something we are capable of imagining.
