What is the best electronic telescope?
I have a manual telescope that is now boxed away because it was too sensitive and it was too difficult to direct it to celestial objects.
I'm interested a telescope that is electronic so it can direct itself to an object rather than me having to aim it myself! What are the best ones to get and what kind of price range am I looking at (£'s).
Thanks.
There are many inexpensive computerized telescopes which promise what you ask, but they fail to deliver. They have shaky mounts (which sounds like the problem with your present telescope), inadequate optics, and unreliable electronics. The least expensive computerized telescopes I can recommend are the Orion XT6i IntelliScope Dobsonian (with digital setting circles) and the Celestron Nexstar 6SE Schmidt-Cassegrain (fully motorized GoTo). Both these scopes still have a steep learning curve before they can "direct themselves" to objects, but both do the job quite well, and have a large enough aperture that you won't be disappointed by what you can see. I own both these scopes and use them both regularly. In the USA these scopes sell for $400 and $800 respectively, so that should give you some idea of what they would cost in the U.K.
