which telescope should i buy???? please help?

i am really interested in astronomy and i really want to look at saturn and jupiter. i want to see the rings and the giant planet. i want to see alot of things. The problem is i know very little about telescopes. the numbers and magnification are damm confusing. i cant spot differences between the cheap £70 telescopes and the £600. i own a 114eq firstcope telescope made by celestron but i dont know. somethings wrong with it.
anyway my budget is £250
please tel me which telescopes are good and which brand name is good. all i know is celestron.

Well, ..., For your budget I'd suggest one of the scopes listed in the links below. Now I'm not saying buy from this company because, being in the US, I don't know much about them however, you'll want to buy a scope of the design pictured. Please don't buy a scope from a department store or on E-bay, etc. You should buy a scope that comes from a reputable dealer preferably one who makes telescopes for a business and will stand behind their product. The scope design that I'm suggesting is easy to transport, setup, and use. Moreover it will be durable and stay in good working order for many years to come.

The 200mm scope is my first choice but it's a little over your budget. However, if you can make a stretch I think you'd enjoy it more. Don't buy any scope with a primary mirror under 150mm. Anything under 150mm doesn't have the light gathering capability to easily see interesting Deep Sky Objects.

Finally, you may want to consider joining your local astronomy club. I'm sure they'd be a good resource in helping you with selection of a telescope.
